Hi Tomson,

Marble requires more care than, for example, granite. That’s why people will have to re-seal their marble countertops on a regular basis. Sealing prevents water and other liquids from entering the pores, as this can lead to staining or roughening of the surface. There are many good stone sealers for this purpose.

Also, as it is mentioned above, marble is not as hard as granite and can be scratched or cracked. Therefore do not drag heavy utensils or appliances across its surface. Also, never cut directly on the surface as you may scratch the surface of the countertop.

Regards,

Ganka

Regarding marble use in kitchen, I'm against it unless the marble is resistant to acids. I've seen many people complain due to damages caused by wine, coke, orange juice, lemon juice, oil spills and knife scratches. What do you think about this?

Marble countertops are really great, but personally I prefer granite because it is more durable and acid resistant. The range of colours in granite also varies hugely, so that there is a granite countertop that will fit in with most any decor scheme.
